New Security Measures for City-Parish Council Meetings

Beginning this evening, Tuesday, May 2, 2017, Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) will implement the use of a metal detector and/or wand for all persons entering the Council Auditorium at Lafayette City-Parish Hall.

Individuals planning to attend the semi-monthly meetings of the City-Parish Council are encouraged to allow additional time for scanning prior to meetings in the auditorium. “Since I took office more than a year ago, my administration has been working to update the security measures and procedures for the City-Parish Council meetings. I believe the metal detector is an important component for the safety of citizens, staff and officials. We ask for people’s patience as we work to implement this important policy.”

Laptops, smart devices and cell phones will be allowed into the auditorium, although all purses, computer bags, backpacks, etc. will be searched.

Items prohibited include Mace, pepper spray, firearms, ammunition, explosives, hazardous substances, fireworks, weapons, knives and other cutting instruments. Illegal items will be immediately confiscated and turned over to the appropriate authorities.
