5th Annual Insect Day at the Arboretum

The 5th Annual Insect Day at the Arboretum 2015 will take place on Sat. July 11th, from 11:00 am - 10:00 pm. - rain or shine ! This year we welcome a new live-bee display by the Capital Area Beekeepers Association! Insect Day, co-organized by: Steven Barney (The Beetle Experience) and Kim Hollier (Arboretum Curator), is a family-friendly event created to explore and celebrate some of the most prevalent animals on earth. The State Arboretum is located inside Chicot State Park, which is in Ville Platte, Louisiana. Please visit: www.InsectDay.com for information, maps, photos and more. "Bug-out" with some of the top entomologists and insect enthusiasts in the state, in one of Louisiana's nicest natural settings. During the day, view displays of live and preserved insect specimens and get up-close with hands-on, live insect exhibits. The event is held mainly indoors and will take place rain or shine. Hike the wonderful trail system maintained by the Arboretum and see if you can spot any insects yourself. ..and when the sun goes down, the shows not over! Gather around various insect collecting light stations to see what critters fly in. The use of "light traps" (AKA: Blacklighting) is a very common method used to collect nocturnal insects. Experts will be on hand to help identify and discuss any insects attracted to the lights.
