Marcia Ball Levitt AMP Music Series
Singer/pianist Marcia Ball knows how to raise roofs and tear down walls with her spirited, intelligent and deeply emotional brand of southern boogie, rollicking, roadhouse blues and heartfelt ballads.
Marica Ball was born into a family of musicians in Orange, Texas. Following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother, Ball took up the piano at a young age, showing an affinity for New Orleans style piano playing right from the start. By her college years, Ball was living and performing in Louisiana. Her exquisite piano playing and passionate, playful vocals fuse the best of both of her worlds: the stomp-rockin' strength of Texas and the swingin' fun of Louisiana zydeco and swamp blues. Her saucy vocals and infectious zydeco-infused rhythms have a way of getting audiences up onto their feet!
Over the course of her three-decade career, Ball has earned a huge and intensely loyal following all over the world and received numerous accolades including: 16 Blues Music Awards nominations for Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year, five of which she has taken home; Blues Music Awards for Best Contemporary Blues Album of the Year for her albums So Many Rivers (2004) and Presumed Innocent (2002); five GRAMMY nominations; Living Blues Awards for Female Blues Artist of the Year (2012 and 2011) and Most Outstanding Musician (Keyboard) (2013, 2012 and 2011); and many others. Ball has also been inducted into the Gulf Music Hall of Fame (2010) and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame (2012).
