World Championship Gumbo Cook-Off

Beginning Friday, October 9th, the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce will host its 26th annual World Championship Gumbo Cook-off. Taking over historical downtown Main Street, the three day event features the coming together of locals and visitors to celebrate Cajun cuisine and music. The main event happens Sunday, October 11th with 100 teams competing to call themselves ‘champions” with the best gumbo in the world. Friday night is dedicated to our local families with family movie night under the Pavilion while crews and teams are gearing up for Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is fondly dubbed “Cajun Creole Foodfest” with teams cooking their favorite Cajun and Creole dishes for lunch, including two mini-competitions happening – Meanest Beans and Youth Gumbo Cook-off happening throughout the day. Music artists Chubby Carrier, Steve Riley & the Bayou Swamp Band, The Revelers, will be playing with Pine Leaf Boys closing on the bayou Saturday night. The main event happens on Sunday with the competition and judging of over 100+ types of gumbos throughout the day. Teams are divided between professional and amateur and are required to cook a minimum of 60 quarts. Visitors can try as many types of gumbos as their hearts desire. Geno Delafose and Roddie Romero are providing dancing tunes for the day.
