The Singing Christmas Tree

“The Singing Christmas Tree” first appeared in Acadiana 30 years ago. This Christmas season it returns to First Baptist Lafayette with a concert of some of the favorite songs from previous presentations. Evening performances are December 11 and 14 at 7 pm, with afternoon matinees December 12 and 13 at 3:00 p.m. “This year, we wanted to feature our choir in a concert we call, ‘It’s Christmas!’” said John Frank Reeve, Minister of Music at First Baptist. “We’re doing a lot of traditional holiday favorites, and concluding with a section we call ‘Worship at the Manger.’” “The Singing Christmas Tree” includes children and adult choirs, as well as the church’s orchestra. “Our choir sings from a nearly 30 foot tall tree covered with over 100,000 lights synchronized to music,” said Reeve. Frosty, Rudolph, and Santa are all part of the program, which promises to be an outstanding evening of family entertainment and inspiration. Tickets are free this year, and can be picked up in advance at the First Baptist Lafayette office, located at 1100 Lee Avenue in downtown Lafayette.
