Local lumber history discussed in talk at Hewes Home
As part of the local Smithsonian Water/Ways exhibit project, the Jeanerette Museum Board and Jeanerette Landmarks Society have partnered to present a cypress industry history talk to be held at 6 p.m. on April 3 at the Harry B. Hewes Home located at 1617 Main St., Jeanerette. Ashley Franklin, special projects coordinator for the Office of State Museum at Wedell-Williams Aviation and Cypress Saw Mill Museum, will lead a talk on the history of the local cypress industry. This program is suitable for an adult audience and is being held free of charge, however, seating is limited and taken on a first come, first serve basis. This program is a part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities made possible through funding from the Walton Family Foundation.
