Bonjour mes Cajun friends! It’s me again, opinionated columnist and general know it all, Mrs. Nettie Mae Avec Domino, and let me tell you something—it’s good to be back. Ole Nettie Mae been fighting dat Gout for a couple of months an just couldn’t write, so if you sent me an email or letter an I didn’t write back—dats why. Now let me start da New Year with a few taughts…

Da Good:

Ok, he done—done it again! Yep, just when I taught he couldn’t get no more perfect, that handsome silver tongue cavalier Mr. Capt. Clay Higgins done went and started his own company to help raise money for da needy in St. Landry Parish. Check out his website at www.captainhigginsgear.com and spend some money with dat man so he can help da people.

Da Bad:

Let’s get to what’s really buggin me… Mayor Mitch Landrieu and da New Orleans city council have decided to remove 4 Confederate monuments from the city. Mon dieu!!! Come on people… You can’t erase history and you can’t white-wash the past. A lot of people died during that war including some of my kin… and dat don’t mean we racist. The civil war is part of American history, just like the Alamo, the Vietnam War and a whole lot of other things this country ain’t necessarily proud of. Right or wrong, you can’t remove or hide the historical monuments that exist to honor those who died while trying to do what they thought was right at that time in history. Besides, there’s a lot worse things in New Orleans than historic monuments… How bout Mitch and his crew work on some of dat!

Da Ugly:

Donald Trump… nuff said.

Till next time…

Au revoir y’all,

Mrs. Nettie Mae Avec Domino
